Precision without contact
Innovative technology
For sustainable solutions
“The BeltEdgeDetect sensor meets the expectations and will help us to reduce the maintenance costs and keep an eye on the steel belts at all times.”
With these words, Bülent Oral, Plant Director from Kastamonu Entegre at their site in Balıkesir in Turkey, describes the introduction of BeltEdgeDetect – a solution that ensures greater process reliability and transparency in production.
The installation went smoothly, and the results are impressive: reduced maintenance costs and stable processes. A project that shows how innovative technology and close cooperation lead to sustainable improvements.
Belt Edge Detect
Real-time precision
The new BeltEdgeDetect sensor measures the position of the steel belt in the middle of the continuous press. Any kind of belt mistrack is reliably detected. This allows undesired deviations to be identified at an early stage and corrected before they cause damage or downtime.
Another advance: for the first time, it is possible to localise the upper and lower steel belt simultaneously. This significantly expands process monitoring – regardless of the material or mat thickness being processed. BeltEdgeDetect uses a Class 2M laser that does not require additional protective measures. A fresh air supply to the sensor keeps its optics clean and ensures suitable temperature conditions.
Back then, contact
Today, laser technology
Until now, measurements were taken using a mechanical plate that was in constant physical contact with the edge of the steel belt. This solution was functional, but it caused friction, wear and recurring plant downtime. BeltEdgeDetect puts an end to this principle once and for all. The laser measurement eliminates the wear-causing mechanical contact between the measuring device and the steel belt. This significantly reduces wear on the steel belt edge, which lowers the risk of stress peaks with potentially resulting cracks. This contributes to a permanent reduction in maintenance and repair costs for the plants.
